Working rights in France

First port of call is the “code de travail” which can be accessed from the following links (in French):

Summary of rights

Generally university adjuncts have very few rights as they don’t have a proper contract. Often such “vacataires” work with no official contracts as officially being a “vacataire” is only meant to supplement another main job. In the private langauge schools CDI contracts are the best in terms of benefits like paid holidays, monthly incomes etc. The most common type of contracts for language teachers in the private sector are CDII. One can qualify to work in the French public school systems which come with more rights for such positions.

Types of contract

CDI – Full time contract

CDII – Permanent contract but only paid for hours taught

CDD – Short term contract

No contracts – often in University adjunct work
